A new water treatment plant has opened in the rural municipality of Gimli, Manitoba.

The project consisted of the construction of a new water treatment plant at the site of the existing Gimli Industrial Park reservoirs, two new wells, and the installation of approximately 8,000 metres of pipeline to connect the new facility to the existing Gimli town site, the Pelican Beach water plant and a condominium complex.

An additional 1,200 m of water main were replaced, as well as 140 m of service piping to property lines and related works for approximately 35 existing properties.

“It’s great to see this project reach completion in Gimli,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Infrastructure and Communities Minister. “These vital upgrades to the community’s aging water infrastructure have renewed the water distribution system and extended its life, ensuring clean drinking water will be available to residents of Gimli and Pelican Beach for years to come.”
